5 Tips for Carpet Stains in OBX

Only one thing can make you madder than a stain on your beautiful carpet, and that is bad advice for removing stains from your beautiful carpet.

Here are some tips for removing some stubborn stains from your carpet:

Note: A wet/dry vacuum or shopvac is very helpful during the rinsing stage.

Mold and Mildew

  • Mix ¼ cup white wine vinegar with 1 cup warm water
  • Spray on your carpet stain
  • Let stand for 5 minutes
  • Scrub with cloth or brush
  • Rinse area with warm water

Bleach Spots

  • Mix ¼ teaspoon dish soap with warm water (mix well)
  • Apply to stain and wait several minutes
  • Scrub with cloth or brush
  • Rinse with warm water

Wine Stains

  • Always wear protective gloves for this application
  • Allow good ventilation in the area to be cleaned
  • Mix 1 teaspoon dish soap with 1 cup hydrogen peroxide
  • Wet a cloth or sponge with cleaning solution and scrub the affected area
  • When the stains are gone, remove excess cleaning solution by blotting with a clean cloth
  • Rinse area with warm water

Grease and Oil Stains

  • Always wear protective gloves for this application
  • Allow good ventilation in the area to be cleaned
  • Apply mineral turpentine to stain using sponge or cloth and scrub
  • Rinse with warm water

  • Apply dry cleaning soap to stain with scrub brush and scrub area
  • Rinse with warm water
  • This application, more than the others, requires a wet/dry vacuum for rinsing
