Should You Choose Engineered Wood Flooring?
Engineered Flooring For The Outer Banks
When building your new house or remodeling your existing home, you may want the look and feel of hardwood flooring but be turned off by its susceptibility to moisture, and laminate flooring may look like real wood, but it is not. Thankfully, modern technology has given us engineered flooring.
Engineered Wood Flooring is Real Wood
It is comprised of a layer of 1/16” to 1/8” of real hardwood with thin layers of plywood underneath it. What you see is 100% real wood. And what’s really nice about engineered wood flooring is that it’s stronger than normal hardwood floor, because the plywood is laid across the grain of the wood top.
The benefits of engineered flooring are numerous:
- Variety– If it comes in solid hardwood, it comes engineered. Hickory, maple or oak engineered flooring are all available, plus dozens of others!
- Pre-Finished– Engineered hardwood flooring is already sanded and sealed, so once it’s down, you don’t have to wait to walk on it.
- Can still be sanded- One major drawback of laminate is it can’t be sanded like a real wood floor, so you have to live with the inevitable scratches. Engineered wood floors are able to be sanded several times depending on the thickness.
- Higher Moisture Resistance– Engineered floors can handle light moisture better than hardwood floors.
- Variety of Installation Options-Engineered flooring can be nailed down, glued down or floating.
