Care and Maintenance of Your Laminate Floors
Laminate floors are easy to care for and hard to damage (perfect for anyone like me). With just a little care and maintenance, your laminate floor can look beautiful for a long time.
Take a look at these tips for maintaining a beautiful laminate floor:
- Read the Book – Your laminate floor should come with a booklet containing maintenance instructions. Read this book and follow the directions as closely as possible.
- Damp Mop – Don’t wet mop your laminate floor. A damp mop is all you need for cleaning. Wet mopping can cause water to sneak behind baseboards and under the laminate floor.
- Finishes – Do not apply wax or acrylic finishes to your laminate floor.
- Stain Removal – Use products recommended by your flooring manufacturer. These products should be in the product manual. If you can’t find a list of recommend products then call your flooring installer. Actually, you may want to call them first!
- Entry Mats – Use entry mats or rugs near exterior entrances. This will trap dirt that can scratch and dull the surface of your floor.
- Protective Pads – Use protective pads under furniture legs and appliances to avoid scratches. This is recommended for all types of flooring and holds true for laminates.
- Moving Furniture – Don’t slide furniture across your laminate floor. Use a dolly or pick the piece up completely when moving furniture.
- Work Area Mats – Floor mats are a good idea for work areas. A dropped knife, can opener, etc. can damage your laminate floor.
See, caring for your laminate floor is easy and painless. Just use these tips to enjoy a beautiful floor for many years.
